Our funeral premises, Rotherham, South Yorkshire

Our occupation of the site at Wood Street in Swinton, Rotherham, began in the late 1800’s. It was understood that John Butterfield actually worked on the building of the residences built on the west side, one of which he and his family lived. He then acquired the rest over the following few years. In the 1970’s they were redesigned and converted into our Funeral Home. The facilities within the Funeral Home comprise of tastefully appointed interview or arrangement rooms, viewing rooms and a multi faith Chapel of Rest, with quiet lounges attached for people to sit and recover if they feel the need.

The original garage and workshops being built in the 1950’s have also been developed and changed into state of the art mortuary facilities and memorial workshop, as well as a garage for the funeral car fleet.

The land adjoining the buildings was also acquired in the late 1800’s and provided stables, harness rooms and coach houses. In 1973 Alfred Butterfield built himself a bungalow on the land. In 2007, the bungalow and land was passed back to the company and converted into a function and buffet room for the use of families for refreshments and funeral receptions. This can easily be converted into a room for funeral services or funeral ceremonies to take place.

In 2009 the seed of the idea for a memorial garden was set in a conversation between David and his father Brian, which Brian picked up and over the next 2 years designed and managed the project. It was officially opened in June 2011. The Memorial Garden and Gallery is said to be the only facility like it in the country, attached to and forming part of the premises of a Funeral Director. This facility is intended to provide families with a peaceful place to visit and remember their loved ones. If they feel they would like something in the Memorial Garden or Gallery we have a large range of options availabe.

The Memorial Garden and Gallery is open 11am to 5pm 365 days of the year. Also each year in the month of December, Christmas Trees are erected for families to place messages on, with a small donation which is given to various charities.

In 2011, our Branch Office was opened at Fellowsfield Way in Kimberworth, Rotherham, which comprises of a comfortable arrangement room and a viewing room/Chapel of Rest. It is tastefully furnished and decorated in the same style as the Swinton Funeral Home. It also has a small selection of memorials to enable families to arrange a memorial or discuss any other memorial work that may be needed. Our staff can provide advice and information and brochures are also available to view.

Our premises are fitted with CCTV for crime prevention and public safety.
