A New Year Message from Butterfields

Trying to find words of comfort for those who are grieving is never easy but particularly so at this time of year.
Our sentiments and thoughts are very much the same as last year and each one that came before. We would like to take this opportunity to reiterate the thoughts we shared at the beginning of this year which still hold true going into 2020:

The beginning of a new year is a difficult time for those living with the loss of a loved one. It can be an anxious struggle to face the thought of leaving the year in which our loved one died and to be forced into a New Year without them; almost as though this is another degree of separation.
Whether your loss is a recent one or more distant, the emptiness we feel at a time when the world is celebrating new beginnings is a painful reminder of that empty space in our hearts, minds and homes.
Sometimes it can be hard to find the right words to say to our friends, family and colleagues who are bereft with grief and we can find ourselves at a loss for what to say, and through an awkwardness or uncertainty of what is the right thing we end up saying nothing or perhaps inappropriately using “Happy New Year”.
‘Our thoughts are with you and we hope you find the strength and comfort you need to see you into 2020’ might be a thoughtful expression; it is ours here at Butterfields.
