David's 40th Year!
David’s 40th Year
At Butterfields we are always very proud to celebrate milestones and anniversaries.
In 2024 we will be celebrating 150 years in business with a range of community celebrations and initiatives.
This October we are proud to be celebrating David Butterfield’s 40 years working within the funeral industry.
Since joining his granddad and dad in the family firm at the age of 17 straight from school, David has mastered his trade inside out. As a fresh faced teenager he was apprenticed to his grandfather who was keen that his grandson learn every aspect of the company he would one day go on to run.
Starting out with polishing cars, digging graves, building coffins, driving the hearse and limousines, lettering and fitting memorial headstones, there was much to learn before he took his Funeral Directors examinations in 1985 and arranged and conducted his very first funeral. It now gives David a great feeling of satisfaction to know that he never asks a member of his team to do any task he hasn’t done himself or cannot still do.
After the passing of David’s grandfather, his dad Brian took over the running of the company with his lovely wife Doreen by his side and with David as his ‘wing man’. Eventually upon his parents retirement, David became the companies Managing Director and has seen Butterfields grow from strength to strength in the years since then.
Whilst other new unknown funeral companies pop up and large conglomerates take over smaller ones, Butterfields has remained a constant in South Yorkshire, serving generation upon generation of our local community and long will that continue.
David’s door is always open for members of the local community to speak to him and his friendly team about any aspect of planning or arranging a funeral or celebration of life.
