Poppy Appeal 2022
After the World War 1 ended in 1918 it was decided that the millions of people who had died all over the world would be remembered on the anniversary of Armistice Day (the symbolic day the war ended) on the eleventh of November. This became known as Remembrance Day, with the first one taking place in 1919.
Remembrance Sunday always falls on the second weekend of November, which means this year’s memorial takes place on Sunday 13 November at the eleventh hour a two minute silence will be held to remember and commemorate the sacrifices of our Armed Forces and to show support to those still serving today.
As well as wearing poppies, it is traditionally marked by the laying of wreaths, memorial ceremonies and periods of silent reflection.
The poppy continues to be sold worldwide to raise money supporting our Armed Forces and to remember those who lost their lives in the first world war and in subsequent conflicts.
Butterfields will be supporting the poppy appeal, please call into our Swinton Branch where you can donate and collect a poppy. Red poppies are a symbol of both remembrance of those who fought and lost their lives in the war and to show support to those still serving today to keep us safe.
